Waking up to a New Day

“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

(Psalm 118:24 ESV)

As human beings, we all experience an interesting phenomenon. Some days we wake up strong. Some days, we wake up with a bounce and an energetic step. We feel alive. We feel good. We feel empowered. But some days, it’s the complete opposite. On those days, we tell ourselves “I woke up on the wrong side of bed”.

By this statement, we accept that there are days we feel good. And by necessity of being human - there are some days, we don’t. And it’s ok. But it’s not ok. It’s not ok because by accepting this, we are failing to live in the light of the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus is alive. And He is not only alive… but He is alive in order that He may lead us. He is alive, in order that we can say with the Psalmist in Psalm 23 - “the LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing”. And if this is truly true - if Jesus is alive and desires to lead us as the LORD, our Shepherd - whether to green pastures or still waters; or even through the darkest valley, if this is truly true - then we can wake up every day with the words of Psalm 118:24.

This IS the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Friends, the truth of the Gospel says this - we don’t have to wake up on the wrong side of bed ever. Every day, is a new day. Why? Because every day, the resurrected Human Being, the Firstborn of Creation - the LORD Jesus Himself, appointed by the Creator of Heaven and Earth is bringing all things under His feet and making all things new. Every day, He seeks to wake us up from bed. To raise us up from the old ways of life. To bring us forward into His Kingdom, under His Ruler, into His New Beginning. All for the Glory of His Father in Heaven (1 Cor 15:20-28). If He is the Firstborn of the New Creation, then we are the Firstfruits of the New Creation. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is our Shepherd.

Friends, this IS the Day that the LORD has made. And this is true not just of today, but every today. May you find yourself living every Day, as the “day that the LORD has made”. May you always know the Lord as your Shepherd.
